Letters from Title IX

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Dear Volunteer community,

April is national Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Office of Title IX and our partners at the Center for Health Education and Wellness invite you to a month of campus-wide events and activities.

I’m excited to highlight the signature event of the month, Vols Walk for SAAM. This second annual event is hosted by CHEW and will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk will start at the 21st Mortgage Plaza at the Student Union at 11:10 a.m. Wear teal and bring your friends, classmates, and colleagues to raise awareness and show support. A reception will follow with refreshments, educational activities, and SAAM giveaways.

I also invite you to review the 2023 Title IX annual report. The report serves to support transparency, increase awareness, highlight the work of our campus and community partners, and ensure ongoing accountability. You can join me along with members of our university community who partner with the Office of Title IX to share our mission and vision for the institution during the Title IX Town Hall on Tuesday, April 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Student Union Room 169. Lunch will be provided for the first 50 attendees, and the presentation will begin at noon. If you cannot join us in person, there is a Zoom option.

Lastly, I encourage you to browse the list of additional events offered during Sexual Assault Awareness Month through the SAAM Events Calendar. We are working to maintain an informed and engaged community by building awareness and understanding of sexual assault, and we cannot fulfill that mission without you. It takes all of us moving forward as Volunteers.

I look forward to seeing you at the month’s upcoming events. Our door remains open year-round to your ideas, suggestions, questions, and concerns.

Ashley Blamey
Title IX Coordinator
